SPRING

Spring, the youthfulness of our years. The growing up time. Playing, toys; learning at our mother’s knee. The small bundle of joy, now developing; now sitting; nearly standing; clapping with glee; learning new things.

Spring is the bulbs peeping out of the ground. First the leaf, then the flower gently opening to full height. Colours of soft white, yellow, mauve and purple. Soft pinks of blossom.

Spring is the smell of warm air. Soft breezes, the sun gently warming your back. People with a spring in their step.

Spring is a time for car boot sales. People pushing to see what they can buy. Wares of all kinds; large, medium and small. Children’s clothes, dolls, pots of every description. Pretty things, dull things, stools, ironing boards, Barbie, coats, nicknacks too.

Spring is also unpredictable. Cold, wet, snowy, gales. Waving branches, dustbins flying down the garden. Glass goes smashing somewhere. Then a calm comes again as the plants change. It’s time for bedding plants. They appear in garden centres.

For spring has really come!
