Coal Pictures
Toasting by the fire
On a cold and windy night
Watching how the flames leap
In the hearth so warm and bright
Father brings the coal in
When the flames are burning low
Mother gives us warm drinks
While the radio plays low
Toes turn into dancers
And the spotlight turns them red
Dressed in flickering costumes
Pretty soon it’s time for bed
Nightie warm and cosy
From its place beside the glow
One more hug and kiss and then
It’s time for me to go
To a land that’s icy
And it seems like miles away
Down a draughty passage
To this room where I can play
Now my toes are warming
As I curl up nice and tight
Thinking of the morning
And getting dressed by firelight
