LIZZIE
Little did we realise
How ill you really were,
And we can only apologise
For not being present there.
Our lives will never be the same
Though we must all adjust.
But it is hard to settle
With your heart about to burst.
You never asked for riches,
Just enough to get you by.
A simple thought or gesture
Seemed to set your spirits high.
Yes, simple things but lots of fun
And you were so at ease.
Driving along, singing your hymns.
You were so easy to please.
I know the shock we must accept,
Though it is hard to bear.
For we seemed to take for granted
That you were always there.
Yes, we’re going to miss you
For your baking and steak pie.
But most of all we’ll miss you
For your smile and twinkling eye.
A little run out in the car,
It didn’t have to be too far.
As long as we took the Drymen road
And finished up in ‘The Milk Bar’.
Now that you’re settled up above,
We thank you for your gift of love,
And for teaching us ‘Care One For Another’.
But most of all for being Our Mother.
