The Beach

It's no fun at the beach
When you can't swim
You stay close to the shore
Not wanting to go in too deep
Lest the waves carry you off
So what's a girl to do?
I'm too black to sunbathe
Perhaps I could strut my stuff
Up and down the beach
I've been told before
That I look like a model.
I could try making conversation
Who knows, I might make a friend
Or I could try making eye contact
With guys . . .
None of that appeals to me
The beach is for swimming
Perhaps one day I'll learn.
