The Interview Clair pulled in to the car park, it was not as busy as she expected. She was early for the interview and just a bit anxious. This year had been a bad year for her but now with her interview and hopefully a new job she would be in work for Christmas, which was only six weeks away. She walked down the precinct. Rehearsing what answers she would give hoping they would find her stunning, witty and intelligent. She decided not to walk in front of the offices she was to visit, what would they think of her if they saw here drifting past too many times. Up ahead she saw a stall selling coffee and cakes. She decided a hit of caffeine would not do her any harm. ‘A latte please’ she ordered and stood sipping the warm liquid. Here she was at 28 a single mother looking to get in the job market, was she doing the right thing? Now Naomi was going to school she had the day to her self she needed something to do. She wasn’t satisfied with continually dusting her little flat; you could only do that for a certain length of time before you went mad. At least her mum was prepared to help with the childcare so this opportunity was just what she needed. A figure pushed past her and up to the counter ‘a Mocha and make it quick and I’ll have one of those pastries with a cherry on top.’ He turned to her,‘sorry to push but I’m in a rush I’ve an interview in ten minutes and I’m quite anxious.’ ‘I’m sure you will do well you look very smart.’ She said. ‘Thank you, but it’s my first one and I’m quite nervous.’ he said. ‘I know how you feel I’m going to my first interview in years and I’m terrified.’ She sipped her coffee ‘What if they take an instant dislike to me, I’ve not much experience but I’m willing to learn.’ ‘I’m sure you will do well you are smart and certainly sound intelligent.’ He smiled at her. She looked at him properly for the first time, smart blue suit, and nice tie, in fact he looked a bit of a hunk, his dark hair cut short and dark eyes, very nice.’ ‘Well’ he said ‘I’ll wish you goodbye and good luck, I’m sure you’ll get the job when they meet you.’ He laughed ‘see you around’ and then rushed off. Claire finished her coffee and started to feel a bit more confident, what had she got to lose. She walked down towards the offices and turned in a few minutes early. She sat waiting in the waiting room for a few minutes and then was taken through to the interview room. The door opened and there he was, her coffee man. He stood, put out his hand and said ‘It looks like it’s the first time for us both.’ by Cliff Hope The Interview click play button for streaming audio |
