Lovers – One To Another.

If at any time by some strange lack of grace

I omit to say, or intimate in any way

an unkind word,  a look upon my face

does not to you good cheer convey.

If – and while insignificant to most –

the certain style of me does please no more;

your bright expectancy to be my host

has not my footsteps hast’ning to your door.

If, seeking me you meet no friendly smile

nor hear in needful moment comfort’s word

that shares in fickle fortunes heartless guile

and plaintive cries appear to go unheard.

If feelings born of long ago are dulled,

the yearning-fires no longer burn as bright,

assurances of old become annulled

no more the need for solace and delight.

If tenderness neglects it’s gentle  touch,

the wished for dearest word remains unsaid

of what did still the heart and thrill so much,

then, from this life I will have passed ahead.

If then – when wandering some place we knew

no memory of vital times are there bestirred

and haplessly, those precious dreams-come-true

lay just beyond recall of what occurred.

If there’s no need to recall , or understand

why we together smiled and found accord,

saw need to touch and hold each others hand

while on our way to meet the untoward.

If mind prefers meandering alone

as daydreams drift on clouds obscuring me,

the realm of wistful longings of you own

preclude me from your favoured fantasy.

If sometimes, I not tiptoe through your mind.

Receptive there, as quiet falls serene

no scenes appear from shadows cast behind

those yesteryears we vowed were evergreen.

.If not from birds soft calls or wild wind’s blow,

nor out the subtle cosmic hum is heard

fond nuance of my meanings whispered low,

or heard, you care not countenance my word.

If all this said you see no sign that I am near,

can’t sense me lingering about your place

embodied in such things once valued dear,

those charms misplaced, forgotten without trace.

If naught is left of thoughts that held me here

and my last mark, whose words upon it’s face

no lips repeat, no more is wetted with a tear:

my purpose will be done, and I,

                                                             -  forever lost in Time and Space

Explanation :  One of either lover is saying to the other as a statement of love to a partner.-If you feel no need ie: 'not want to remember', If you are unable to rationalise why we did what we did together. If you should say to yourself :-

Why on earth did I do that - what did I see in you?   Viewed from today's prospect,  I don't know what I must have seen in you,  For now that I have no deep feeling for you ! - Only the 'habit' remains, that comes from being with you all those years,  which is a poor substitute for a love that has died. So, I now feel no need  - of you!

Therefore - If ever that time came and you didn't need me anymore,  then,  knowing this a great emptiness would ensue and in effect, my life would be over. There would remain no purpose in me. With love gone, -  I would be lost for all eternity.
