MANDALAS
MANDALAS The Sanskrit word mandalas means ‘magic circle’. Creating mandalas has been a form of artistic expression in the East and throughout the world for centuries. Even in the Middle Ages it was popular for religious contemplation, and as a means of mental therapy. This idea of a mandala as a therapeutic tool was observed by Carl Jung, the Swiss psychologist, during a difficult period in his personal life. His experiments in creating mandalas turned out to be of a high order, both beautiful and complex. My own freelance mandala designs were offshoots from an interest in Celtic art. At first I approached them only for enjoyment, but they became a means toward the refreshment of the spirit as well. by Norma Constance Plummer MANDALAS click play button for streaming audio
