Stockport Carnival 2011
Land Army Girl
My friends Susan & Eric and I were going to the Stockport Carnival.
Two days before Eric had a great idea. Ask someone at Age UK whether we
could hitch a ride on their float. They told him we could. The theme was
the Women’s Land Army. We had to quickly think about what we could wear.
I wore a plain mole t-shirt and a khaki coat, while Eric dressed as a
farmer with in a scruffy coat, cap and an old t-shirt, his normal
attire. They practically had to use a crane to lift him onto the float.

On the float we were sitting on bundles of hay. When the wind blew
the hay went everywhere. I was Knitting for Victory, Eric was
pretending to smoke an old pipe. Every time the Air Raid Siren
went off we had to duck. An ambulance was going up the A6, Eric
ducked by mistake. We waved to people we knew in the crowds
lining the streets to watch the carnival.

We reached Woodbank Park and walked round the stalls. Eric
tried to win some of the raffle prizes on the Stockport Mind stall, he
won a Eau De Toilette, which he passed on to me, and some
Strawberry Cream Shower Gel, He lost more times than he won and
ended up with six Stockport Mind Pens which I claimed.
Luckily for Carnival Day the weather was nice and Age UK invited
us to go on their float next year, which we are looking forward to;
and they said they would provide their float with steps next year.
It was just nice to do something different.
