Children's Stories
JANE IN SOCK LAND
One day Jane pulled on her magic headband and wished
for something to do or somewhere to go. Suddenly she was transported to
a very strange place where everything was the shape of socks.
The people were dressed in socks and their houses were made of socks,
even the trees were the shape of socks.
Jane started to look around until she came to a small cottage, at the
door stood a child and her cat. Jane was asked if she would like to go
and explore the town. She said: ‘Yes,’ and inquired why everything was
the shape of socks.
The child told her it was the odd socks that people lose. They all come
to Sock Land where they are put to good use. Some are used to build
houses or shops, others make clothes for the people of Sock Land.
She told Jane that the socks came in all colours, some with spots or
stripes. All of a sudden there was a downpour of socks, but one was very
smelly. It was a very bad sock and would not go into the washing machine
until it found the sock that was the same as itself. Everyone came out
of their houses to try and find the other matching sock so they could
send the smelly sock back.
Jane joined in the search. After a long time they found the missing sock
and the smell disappeared and so did the sock as only odd socks can stay
in Sock Land. Then it was time for Jane to leave. She put her hands on
the headband and she was back home in her room.
Now Jane knows what happens to all the socks that you lose - they go to
Sock Land and are put to good use.
