Oh Dinky
When Dinky’s owners first got her she was what
is known as the runt that means she was the smallest and weakest puppy
in the litter, and so when they first took her home she was a tiny ball
of fluff. But she grew and grew and grew so big in fact she was nearly
as big as a pony. The only thing that was bad about that was dinky
didn’t know she was so large and ran around knocking things over and
wagging her long tail and breaking things and when her owners were
always saying “Oh Dinky”. The children Katie and Bobby really love her
and they would all roll around the floor together but that often
resulted in Dinky breaking things so they were told they could only play
with her in the garden sometime they would take Dinky to the park and
she would run around and play she really love going to the park.
Sometimes the Katie or Bobby would sneak her in there rooms but mummy or
daddy always found out and made her go downstairs again. One day the
mummy found out she was going to have another baby and they were all
delighted about the new baby. But Mummy and Daddy had to talk about
Dinky and the next day they sat the children down and spoke to them they
told them that were have to give Dinky to someone else the children both
cried out “oh not Dinky you can’t give her away she’s ours”. They
explained that she was far too big for their little house and now there
was another baby on the way it would be worse. The children cried they
were so unhappy when their tea was ready neither of them could eat it.
Mummy was worried and Daddy tried to make them laugh but they didn’t
feel like laughing they felt they would never laugh again. Their mummy
and daddy were vey worried about them about then they wouldn’t eat or
play they were so sad. Poor Dinky kept running up to them trying to get
them to play but all they did was cry.
Then mummy and daddy sat talking one night and they decided on something
but kept it to them selves for a while. Two weeks later on a Saturday
morning the children’s daddy told them they were all going to go out for
a ride in the car they both wanted to take Dinky with them but daddy
told them there was not enough room in the car for her. So they all
except Dinky piled in the car to go for a ride. Both Katie and Bobby
were getting restless as they seemed to be travelling a long time, but
at last they stopped outside an old house. It seemed much bigger than
their house and had a large overgrown front garden, the house itself
needed painting as the windows and doors had paint peeling off of them
but daddy said it was nothing a lick of paint wouldn’t cure. He took
them all to the front door and produced a key from his pocket put it
into the lock and let them in inside it was very dusty but wonderful the
children ran from room to room having a wonderful time. Daddy and mummy
sat them both on a box and told them that they were thinking of buying
this house but it would have some work done on it the children both
thought that as it was bigger they would be able to keep Dinky they
jumped up and down and said both together “thank you Daddy.” Daddy said
that they would all have to think about it as it meant the children
would have to leave all their friends behind and change their school and
they would have to catch a school bus from the bottom of the lane if
they lived here. Mummy asked daddy how would he get to work but he told
her he wanted to work from home then he could help her with the new baby
too.
So it was decided they all loved the hose and three months later they
were moving in the family arrived before the furniture and Katie, Bobby
and of course Dinky ran from room to room daddy had decorated it
beautifully he had painted the windows and doors outside in a lovely
green to match the surrounding countryside and inside he painted the
rooms Katie’s was just the shade of pink she loved and Bobby’s was in
two shades of blue mummy and daddy’s room was white with other colours
to brighten it up and he painted the nursery in yellow, pink and blue as
they wasn’t sure whether the baby was a boy or girl. It was really a
lovely house they all loved it very much but best of all it had a
enormous back garden where their beloved Dinky could run around and play
all day the children were happy at last and mummy and daddy were happy
too as they hated to see the children so sad also all of them were
delighted they could keep Dinky and no one had to say “Oh Dinky” ever
again.
