MET ANY LEMURS LATELY?
These strange animals exist on the Island of Madagascar; the only
place they exist. More than one type of lemur lives there among the
trees with their large watery eyes and lengthy tails? some striped. In
documentaries these are shown having a spat or tiff with another lemur
types, using the weapon of strong odour to overcome their opponent.
That's a novel way to fight using stink bombs with no one getting hurt.
One particular branch of lemurs adapted itself to an area where they
could feed from the trunks of thorny trees with thick boles 20 or 30
feet apart. These graceful creatures take off from tree to tree with a
sideways leap, landing neatly on the next tree without touching the
prickly part. So far so good!
But, when on the ground these lemurs lose the art of walking on
all-fours. Instead they make the most graceful sideways jumps on the
ground, clearing about 10 feet at a time, their forepaws waving like a
ballerina’s arms.
What fun it would be to go side-leaping through a park, passing with
ease the thumping joggers!
