The
Worth of Friendship
What gift have you expected?
What should I give to you?
A locket from my bosom?
I have none,
But the one bearing my lover’s portrait.
A silken ribbon from my gown?
I have none,
But the one embroidered with my lover’s name.
So I have given you
A raven’s feather
I found returning
From my lover’s homestead,
A coin of fairy silver,
My blessings, truth
And loving friendship.
Why wasn’t this enough?
Why wasn’t this enough to save me from your hatred?
