Poems by Nelferch Merchoed

THE PRESENT
Looking for You
I met the treasure hunters on the shore,
Who fervently threw out their nets
Into the deep blue sea
Of the subconscious -
Their nets meticulously woven
From exercise and prayer.
‘Nothing,’ they said,
‘Is gained but for our strength,
For our mind’s the only place
Wherein spiritual power dwells.’
I drew my coat around me closer
To hide the necklace
Of rainbow-coloured gems.
The present which You fetched me
From the Sea of Love.
