Poems by Nelferch Merchoed
The Herdsman
You thought to catch me,
Take me
Herd me
Tame me
Teach me
Turn me
into an obedient fawn
feeding from your hands
hanging on your lips.
Did they not tell you:
The heart which grew
The falcon's wings
For its own Lover's sake
Cannot be herded.
You thought to catch me:
Charm me
By caring words
By compliments
In prose and poetry
And by sweet song.
Alas did they not teach you:
A truly loving heart
is not ensnared
by such vain trifles!
