Patchwork Quilt
As Sara carefully folded away her beautiful patchwork
quilt she thought about the wonderful memories this special quilt held
dear to her.
Sara’s Aunt Amelia bequested it to her in her will, and she felt quite
honoured that it had been left to her. It wasn’t just an ordinary quilt,
it was so special to all the people who painstakingly made it and who
were travelling companions of her Aunt Amelia. They had all travelled to
many different countries around the world and each country they visited
they bought a piece of material for the quilt. The colours were vibrant
and they blended perfectly together.
When Sara received the quilt there was a letter in the beautiful box. It
explained how to look after the quilt and named all her Aunt’s friends,
who had all enjoyed making it; and where and when the different
materials had been bought, and which country each piece was from. Also
attached was a wonderful story for each colour of the quilt.
As Sara re-read the letter many times, she felt that she was being
transported to these various countries. Sara thought it wasn’t just a
quilt to keep her warm, it was magical to own this very special quilt.
She would always take care of it and as it was left to her Sara would do
the same and pass it on to her daughter, who always admired it each year
when it was put on her bed.
So once again this quilt of many colours and treasured memories was put
away until next winter.
