My Town
The sun was warm as I sat on the mown grass.
Saint Mary's bell rang its hourly ring.
The traffic roared down in the town,
Yet how peaceful it is just sitting here.
I could hear the teacher at the school talking to her pupils.
Oh town I see you in the sunny mist,
Long have you stood here.
You had a castle with walls thick.
The river was a lovely river long ago.
Ladies and Gentlemen would visit you
To watch the salmon jump.
New buildings stand over you, from sight you hide.
But as I gaze into my town you will always stand tall.
Erect and beautiful.
