Poems by Anne Knight
JUNE
The weather lingers on, hot.
Water butt nearly empty,
Mother’s washing tub too.
An old galvanized type of the forties.
Husband cleans them both
Ready for the next downpour.
Going into the garden, take a look.
Water butt a quarter full.
A smattering in mother’s wash tub.
Yesterday was hot, so very hot.
Took my camera to see
What photos I could take.
The hebe, a little gem
Full of bees, different types,
Hiding their bodies in the pollen.
Manage to take a few snaps.
‘Well,’ I smiled at the bee
That had landed on my borage,
Taking nectar from black spike.
The bee went from one flower to the other.
Antirrhinums, have not flowered yet.
Poppy gone, all finished.
My flag has finished its flowering.
Sunflowers, given two years,
Full of bloom, purple lilac type.
29th June, near month’s end.
Wonder what July will bring?
