A Day Trip to Glossop
Bus is boarded
mobile ringing
people silent
bus stops
we get off.
People waiting
trains arriving
boarding the train
to Piccadilly
train stops
people alight
rush to show their passes
platform two
Hadfield, Glossop
showing our passes
board the train
train moves out
of the station.
Through the window
passing buildings
on our way
some leaves in bud
some not
trees felled
sawdust heaped in piles
where they once stood
people with music plugs
listen
old cable holders pass us by
from days of steam
Glossop soon comes
people alight
so do we
walk into Glossop
a friend of long ago
we meet
we talk of old times
then we say goodbye.
Our mission
to see the timber man
last day of sale
he's retired
a car park
has closed his business
slowly walk back
to the station
first having lunch
once finished
next door we went
the railway station
train soon comes
we board it
with others
then home.
